Nabouwalu is in the process of becoming a town. It connects Vanua Levu with Viti Levu through the Nabouwalu Wharf, used primarily by Patterson's shipping line. Patterson's operate a ferry that runs daily to and from Viti Levu.
The Bua province features some of the finest art and craft. Bua is known for the Kuta, a round Fijian mat, woven from bamboo spike sedge - a fine‐stemmed fresh water reed.

The newly formed Bua Rugby Union was established through a resolution being passed by the Bua Provincial Council in its meeting on 20/11/14 which had requested the Bua Provincial Office to spearhead and facilitate the formation of the Bua Rugby Union.
The Bua Women’s Resource Centre was established by the department for women in consultation with the SSVM Bua
