The Bua province played host to the Annual lessons sharing workshop and AGM for the FLMMA network. The event lasted one week and representatives from the respective 14 provinces gathered at Bua Lomanikoro to share successes, challenges and ways forward on natural resource management.
The FLMMA consists of a number of Non Government Organizations, government ministries and departments as well as communities. There are a number of scientists and technical personnel who also volunteer their time and effort for the FLMMA to ensure the preservation and good management of natural resources in Fiji.
Since its establishment in 2001, the FLMMA network has grown and it has assisted in the setting up of 465 tabu areas around Fiji. This number is expected to grow as we look to meeting Fiji's target of having 30% of our oceans protected.
The support of the Vanua o Bua was also instrumental in the success of the workshop and the dedication of the villages that fed, accommodated and entertained the participants is greatly acknowledged.
Next year's FLMMA workshop and AGM is expected to be hosted at Tavualevu in the Western Division.
