The province of Bua is blessed with rich natural resources both in the ocean and on land. Although there have been reports inĀ the media highlighting the Province as being one of the poorest in the country, the people of Bua have been able to build a life for themselves from the wealth of natural resources available to them.
In the past years, development in the province of Bua has been progressing, albeit at a very slow rate. However, due to the recent efforts by the Government of Fiji to curb the rural to urban drift from Vanua Levu to Viti Levu through its look North Policy, development has begun to move at a faster rate.
Due to investor interests in the resources in Bua, the following industries have started and for some has been revived, for example, logging, wood chips, the more recently Bauxite mining and gravel and stone crushing plants.
In terms of Tourism within Bua, there is the island of Namena in the District of Kubulau where an ecotourism resort operates.
